With art in her heart and talent in her hands, Shelly Long has proven her passion through a variety of artistic mediums. Three particular areas of creativity are sculpture, wearable art and art cars. She earned her BFA in sculpture from the University of North Texas. Her sculptures have been included in several collective and gallery exhibits including the Arlington Museum of Art, Dallas Visual Art Center, Bath House Cultural Art Center, Salon 114, Three Ring Circus and Denton Visual Art Center. Continuous commitment to creativity makes her studio one of constant activity.
Long’s Wearable Art creations have adorned stages for theatrical, musical and national awards programs. During the national tour production of Cirqu Du Soleil’s “Dralion,” Long was a member of the costume crew. Dallas Theater Center commissioned her to create the masks for the 2003 production of “A Christmas Carol.” Bubba Hernandez of “Brave Combo” wore a Long original to receive the group’s first Grammy award. Rick Nelson of Polyphonic Spree has worn Long costumes on tour, on the Conan O’Brien Show and Jimmy Kimball Live.
In addition to sculpture and wearable art, Long has also assisted in the construction of art cars with associate artists. Her personal vehicle, the “Green Goddess” includes custom designed cast aluminum shamrocks, fins, brand plaques, and hood ornament. She has participated in “The Orange Show,” the annual art car celebration in Houston, Texas. Her work gets you artistically going where life takes you.
